Rembrandt feature at Opera House

BELLOWS FALLS — RAMParts Presents, in partnership with Exhibition on Screen, brings Rembrandt - Master Works to the Bellows Falls Opera House on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.

The 90-minute feature was filmed in London's National Gallery and the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, revealing the masterworks of a soulful, honest, and deeply moving artist. The film includes behind-the-scenes footage of the galleries as they open their exhibitions and examinations of Rembrandt's biblical masterpieces and the then-revolutionary art form of printmaking, with commentary from art historians.

Rembrandt was born on July 15, 1606, and was an innovative and prolific draftsman, painter, and printmaker. He is generally considered to be the most important artist of the Dutch Golden Age. His work depicts a wide range of style and subject matter, from portraits, self-portraits, landscapes, genre scenes, allegorical and historical scenes, biblical and mythological themes, and animal studies.

Although he achieved acclaim in his youth, the latter part of his life was marked by tragedy and financial hardship - as was the case for many of the Dutch masters he taught. Rembrandt's portraits of his contemporaries, his self-portraits, and his Biblical illustrations have been called his greatest triumphs, and he is known for transforming printmaking. He is considered the greatest etcher in the history of the medium.
