Good day to you! While all eyes remain firmly on Hurricane Irma for impacts to the East Coast of the United States, we have some rainy weather to slog through before we break out into a nicer weekend and early-next-week period.
Speaking of Irma, it's highly unlikely we will have a direct impact here in southern Vermont. However, by the middle of next week or so, some remnant rain and wind is possible up in these parts. For now, it's a non-issue for us, thankfully.
As for our sensible weather, we have a slow-moving cold front that will focus some showers, thunderstorms, and downpours in our region into the late-week period, so let's jump into the details. Look out below!
For Wednesday, we'll have a cold front that will be slowly translating east through the region. As this occurs, smaller waves of low pressure will ride northeastward along the frontal boundary, bringing periods of showers, thunderstorms, and downpours.
Some localized flash flooding is possible. This is because as the front moves slowly, downpours can travel over an area repeatedly, dousing that locale with copious amounts of rain. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s, and lows will be in the mid 50s.
For Thursday and Friday, the front will be off to our east, but we'll still have an area of upper level low pressure that will have to slowly work through New England. This will produce periods of scattered showers, especially for Thursday.
Friday will feature less of a chance for showers, but skies should trend to partly sunny by this time. Highs on Thursday and Friday will be in the mid 60s and low 60s respectively, and lows in the upper 40s and mid 40s respectively.
By Saturday, while some isolated to scattered showers are still possible, we should begin to dry out as high pressure starts to assert its influence with partly sunny skies and highs in the low 60s.
Sunday will be the pick of the weekend with drier air moving in, and plenty of sunshine. This fair weather respite looks to last into early next week, at which time we'll turn our attention to the remnants of Irma to see if she'll bring some rain and wind to the region.
Have a great week!
