GUILFORD — The public is invited to the 18th annual Write Action Potluck Picnic on Sunday, Aug. 20, from noon to 4 p.m.
Participants are asked to bring a dish to share and are invited to bring writing for an open reading (five-minute maximum, which should be about 500 to 600 words).
During the first public announcement of contest winners, judges will introduce the winning poems and prose pieces. Contest winners will be invited to read before the open reading, and prizes will be awarded.
From noon to 2 p.m., the duo Aura Shards - Anders Burrows on handpan and Jed Blume on tabla - will perform.
Participants will also:
• get a first look at the Literary Festival schedule and an opportunity to volunteer at the festival;
• make announcements that are pertinent to the writing community;
• let board members about things they'd like to see happen locally in the writing community;
• express interest in getting involved with the People, Places, and Words project.
Drinks, cups, paper plates, and utensils are provided. Bring a chair if you can (some will be at the event) or a blanket.
