‘Beyond Readsboro — Contemporary Studio Glass’ opens at Confluence

Confluence, a gallery in Readsboro, Vermont, opens its third show of the season with an invitational exhibit that will feature some of the finest studio glass artists in the region. It runs from Aug. 5 to Sept. 10.

Beyond Readsboro - Contemporary Studio Glass is curated by Bill LeQuier and Mary Angus, a couple who are themselves glass artists: a sculptor and glass blower, respectively.

Beyond Readsboro features nine glass artists from southeast Vermont and northwestern Massachusetts: Lucy Bergamini, Ed Branson, Robert Burch, Genevieve Cole, Robert Dane, Robert DuGrenier, Josh Simpson, Randi Solin, and Jen Violette. Among them, these glass blowers and sculptors have won 38 awards, been exhibited in top craft venues, and are part of the permanent collections in glass and art museums throughout the country.

LeQuier and Angus have known most of these artists for decades and have shown with them at Southern Vermont Art Center and other venues. They are thrilled that these associates have agreed to exhibit at the gallery, despite its off-the-beaten-path location. Works chosen for Beyond Readsboro, Angus says, will include both functional and sculpture pieces.

Readsboro is an unlikely outpost of some world-class glass artists. LeQuier's glass sculptures are shown in galleries and are in collections around the world; Angus' delicate blown perfume bottles are shown and sold at fine craft fairs and galleries throughout the region.

Both are original founders, along with glass artist Deborah Coombs, of Readsboro Arts, the nonprofit parent organization of Confluence.
