Good day to you! We have landed in a bit of a rinse-and-repeat pattern for the upcoming week, thanks to a large upper level low over Hudson Bay, Canada. This large system will continue to sit and spin, driving fronts and low pressure disturbances counterclockwise around its southern flank.
What does this mean for us? Showery weather potential for much of the upcoming seven days as these systems will drive east through the region in a zonal, or west-to-east, flow. We should have a few breaks in the action, but expect more rainy hydrometeors for sure.
For the Wednesday through Friday period, our weather will be dominated by a west to east front that will divide cooler and drier air to its north from warmer and more humid air to its south. There isn't a whole lot of energy to push this front definitively one way or the other, so it will meander like a snake, sometimes over us, sometimes to our south through this period.
Highs on Wednesday will be in the low 80s. During the day, we could see some scattered showers and thunderstorms in this humid flow, but the best chance for heavy rain will be Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
A shortwave will move through the region overnight along with a piece of upper level jet energy. These features will interact with the nearby front to develop some heavier rains out of the very moist air over the region, with lows in the mid 60s.
On Thursday, we should see some showers and storms in the morning, but this activity is expected to sag south along with the cold front's southward travels. Still, additional waves of energy will travel east along this front into Friday evening, keeping the chance for scattered showers and storms active.
We will be cooler behind the front with highs in the low to mid 70s Thursday, and lows in the low 50s! Friday will be even cooler with highs struggling to reach 70 under mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers possible. Lows Friday night will be in the mid 50s.
For the weekend we are looking better, with partly sunny skies both days, and a chance of afternoon scattered showers. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. There is a better chance for thunderstorms Sunday afternoon and/or evening, depending on how fast a cold front reaches southern Vermont.
