BRATTLEBORO — Jasmine's Bakery and Peter Havens restaurant have teamed up in a shared space of deliciousness.
In the two years since Jasmine Bernier stopped selling her cupcakes out of North End Butchers on Putney Road and returned to baking at home, many folks in town couldn't get their buttercream frosting fix.
But she has set up shop on 34 Elliot St., next door to Peter Havens.
The location is not a coincidence.
Bernier is a long-time friend of Zach Corbin, Peter Havens' owner and chef. Though the bakery and restaurant are separate enterprises, the two have teamed up to create a luxurious private dining room at the rear of the bakery.
Renovations began last November on the new 800-square-foot space. It has a newly accessible bathroom, and the dining room can comfortably seat up to 35 people. It boasts an antique bar, reclaimed wood shelving, and a large television.
The basement, which spans the entire length of the commercial space and once was a storage area for nearby Brattleboro Books, is now a shared kitchen for Jasmine's Bakery, the new function room, and Corbin's latest undertaking, a catering company.
Corbin and Bernier have also been working side by side in their culinary ventures.
While Bernier bakes custom cookies and wedding cakes in addition to running her shop, she contributes a seasonal dessert each week to the Peter Havens' menu.
Diners can look forward to trying things like raspberry cheesecake with shortbread crust, or New York-style cheesecake with raspberry compote.
The chocolate ganache, lemon blackberry, and orange zest cupcakes that won her local fame are back also.
Corbin says that he is offering custom menus for all occasions.
“If you want your kid's birthday party to have hot dogs and cupcakes, we'll do that,” he said. “If you want lobster and filet mignon, we'll do that, too.”
