SAXTONS RIVER — Scott Morgan is the featured artist in the show entitled “Water Music Art” that opened this week at Main Street Arts and runs through Aug. 11.
A reception for the artist will be held Thursday, June 29, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Morgan's work showcases pieces that pays homage to the environments, influences, and instruments that have shaped his art and life, according to a news release.
“Water, primarily in the form of the ocean, has been one of the most dominant influences in the direction that my life path has taken,” Morgan said in the release. “I love being in the water, and looking at it, whether I'm at the coast surfing or hiking along the rivers and streams of Vermont. I wanted to create a series of canvases that capture those fleeting 'moments' of drama and beauty found in the intersection of water, land, and sky.”
He cites music as an equally important influence on his art.
“Typically, it shows up in the lyrical quality of my abstract forms, in the movement and rhythm of the lines and passages. But over the past few years I've been able to combine my love for art and music in a very literal sense by painting guitars. While I've done several commissions for musicians, the majority of my work is on unplayable, 'rehabbed' guitars. They provide me with a very challenging organic canvas, and I give them a second life,” he said.
For the past 30 years, Morgan has been combining his skills as artist and designer on canvas and in the landscape.
His journeys to Mexico, China, Central America and the Caribbean have influenced his color palette and sense of style. His experiences as a professional musician are evident in the rhythm and movement in his paintings. The structural and sculptural qualities seen in his work are informed by his extensive career as a landscape architect.
His work is represented on both coasts and is featured at his 'WaterMusicArt' studio at Sherwin Art Glass in Bellows Falls.
