BRATTLEBORO — The Rally for Science Brattleboro will be held on Saturday, April 22, from noon to 5 p.m. Attractions will include presentations and talks center on science, education, and the environment.
This presentation is an official satellite event of the national Rally for Science being held that day in cities around the world.
Positive Geek on Flat Street is sponsoring the day, which will center on STEM (science, technology, education, and mathematics) learning, and the environment, according to a news release. Refreshments will be available, the presentations will be family-friendly, and admission is free.
Bill McKibben, founder of 350.org and author of more than a dozen books about the environment, will address attendees via a video message, recorded especially for this event. McKibben is one of Vermont's premier names in the environmental movement.
“We are excited to be hosting this event on Earth Day. We live in a time when our society is intimately tied in with science and technology. Still, as a whole, education and the quest for knowledge is not considered a priority for most people,” said James Maynard, owner of Positive Geek, in a news release.
Organizations at the rally will include Community College of Vermont, the Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center, and others. Latchis Arts and Patch of Sky Farm of Guilford are co-sponsoring the event.
Positive Geek is a Brattleboro store focused on science and science-fiction merchandise along with toys, games, and clothing. They have been in business since 2015.
