An early spring sandwich with wintry filling this way comes

Hello, southern Vermonters! After an icy period to start the week, we've got some sunny and milder days to savor before the chance for more wintry weather this coming Friday and Saturday.

This quick reminder of the departing season could at least bring light accumulating snows to the higher elevations of Windham County before we bring back some milder conditions with fair weather by early next week. We could have a few more cool shots into early to mid-April, but there are signs of warming beyond that, so let's hope those signals manifest into reality. To the details!

For Wednesday, high pressure begins to build into the region, and that giant yellow-white orb in the sky will begin to reveal itself again. As of now, it looks like a partly sunny day will develop with highs in the low to mid-40s and lows in the upper 20s with a northwest wind that will gust to 20 mph at times. An isolated shower cannot be ruled out as colder air spills in aloft, creating some instability from surface to sky.

For Thursday, we will have a gorgeous, sunny day to enjoy. High temps should make it well into the 40s with a generally light north wind. However, clouds will be increasing overnight with lows dipping just below the freezing mark.

The Friday and Saturday period looks unsettled, and potentially wintry.

Low pressure will push east out of the Ohio Valley and toward the Mid-Atlantic coastline. This will allow snow to break out across southern Vermont in the pre-dawn hours of Friday, the way it looks now, and continue for a time until we warm enough to mix with and change to rain by afternoon.

Still, some light accumulations are possible, though with the higher March sun angle it would have to snow hard to cause roads to ice up. This system could linger into Saturday with more rain and snow. Highs both days will be only in the upper 30s, with lows in the low 30s.

By Sunday to Monday, we are back in the milder air, with more in the way of sunshine and highs in the 40s. Another rainstorm is possible for Tuesday or Wednesday. We need the water in the ground, so this really is all good news.

Have a great week!
