PUTNEY — What do you do when your large abstract paintings don't fit in your new, small, French apartment and you want to make art? You get a small easel and some tubes of paint and you begin to explore on canvas your new environs.
So was the case, according to a news release, for Peter Van der Does, who chose to set up in the streets of France to capture the scenes of his daily life. The public may view the charming results of this creative decision on the walls of the Putney Public Library until the end of January.
Also showing are some of Van der Does' paintings of the Putney Co-op and local natural landscapes. As he puts it, “Painting outside in the sunshine is a lot better than when you're indoors brooding on large abstracts.”
The library is located at 55 Main St. Winter hours are Monday–Friday 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show is free and open to the public.
