Town signs Rescue, Inc. contract, selects new rep
VERNON — VERNON - The Selectboard voted to sign the 2017-18 contract with Brattleboro-based emergency medical services provider Rescue, Inc., for $49,921.78, billed in monthly installments.
At the Nov. 21 regular Selectboard meeting, Board member Steve Skibniowsky asked if his colleagues knew if Rescue, Inc. officials provided statistics, such as the number of ambulance calls they answered.
Board member Josh Unruh told Skibniowsky that a representative from Rescue, Inc. makes a yearly report to the Selectboard in person.
The Selectboard also voted unanimously - minus the absent Emily Vergobbe - to appoint Gregory Stoughton as the town's representative to Rescue, Inc. Stoughton contacted the Board to express his interest in the vacant position via a letter.
Stoughton, a Vernon resident, noted his many years of experience working as an emergency medical technician for a different company in New Hampshire with a similar set-up as Rescue, Inc., as a private company contracting with multiple municipalities.
Hicks resigns, Fiber Optics Committee short of members
VERNON - In a letter to the Selectboard, Munson Hicks tendered his resignation from the Fiber Optics Committee and the Planning Commission, effective immediately.
Board member Sandra Harris read Hicks' letter at the Nov. 21 regular Selectboard meeting. The Selectboard unanimously accepted his resignation - minus the absent Emily Vergobbe - without comment.
With his departure, the Fiber Optics Committee is down to two members. Member Bronna Zlochiver assured Selectboard members their work will continue, and the remaining committee members will seek new appointees after the holidays.
Selectboard Chair Christiane Howe reminded Zlochiver the committee can't make any decisions until they have enough members to make quorum.
