Buddhist talk on 'Untangling Self' set for Saturday
BRATTLEBORO - Buddhist scholar Andrew Olendzki will present a public program on “Untangling Self” on Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Vermont Insight Meditation Center.
Olendzki, a New Englander who is senior scholar at the Integrated Dharma Institute, will focus on key essays from his recently released book “Untangling Self: A Buddhist Investigation of Who We Really Are.”
The program runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at Solar Hill Neighbors' Hall at 229 Western Avenue in Brattleboro. Admission is $25, with more information available at vermontinsight.org.
Pinnacle Association offers guided Bald Hill hike
WESTMINSTER - A guided hike offered by the Windmill Hill Pinnacle Association on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon, will introduce participants to a very special regional resource: the combined trail system on the Rockingham/Westminster lands of the Association's 50-acre Bald Hill Reserve and the 200 acres of the Bellows Falls Union High School, which controls more land than any other public high school in Vermont.
Vanessa Stern, a member of the Bald Hill Committee of the Pinnacle Association and an Association board member, will lead this moderate jaunt to explore area uplands and the river path of the Bald Hill Reserve, as well as a new trail.

'Haunted critters' on display at Natural History Museum
MARLBORO - On Friday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m., the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum on Route 9 will hold a free live animal presentation featuring the misunderstood animals of the Northeast.
Get up close with a haunting owl, giant spiders, spooky snakes and an ominous raven. Science meets superstition and story for this fun family presentation. The museum will be open for free starting at 4 p.m. for presentation attendees. For more information, call 802-464-0048.
Swedish dinner served at Trinity Lutheran
BRATTLEBORO - Trinity Lutheran Church, 161 Western Ave., Brattleboro, will host a Swedish meatball dinner on Saturday, Nov. 5. Open to the public, seatings are at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Reservations are required. Call the church office at 802-254-4220 and leave a message.

'Cooking with Kim' at the Whitingham Library
JACKSONVILLE - Kimberly Hicks of Whitingham will be teaching a cooking series at the Whitingham Free Public Library on Mondays in November, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Fall Osher lectures continue
DUMMERSTON - The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute's autumn series of morning and afternoon lectures will present its fifth pair of programs on Nov. 7. The morning lecture, examining humanism and politics, will be given by Jerry Levy. The afternoon series, presented by Felicity Ratte, will consider Islamic art in relation to European and US art. Both presenters are on the faculty of Marlboro College.
Morning lectures run from 10 a.m. to noon; afternoon lectures, from 1 to 3 p.m. All are held at the Vermont Learning Collaborative, 471 US Route 5. Vernon Historians hold Election Day food sale
VERNON - The Vernon Historians will hold an Election Day food sale on Tuesday, Nov. 8, beginning at 7 a.m., downstairs at the Vernon Town Office Building.
The sale is a fundraiser to further the organization's work of preserving and presenting local history, and donations of homemade food items for the sale are being solicited. The food sales typically include baked goods and homemade items ranging from baked beans and chili to jellies and homemade canned foods.

BF Woman's Club to meet
BELLOWS FALLS - The Nov. 8 meeting of the Bellows Falls Woman's Club will be held at the United Church, School St., beginning at 1:30 p.m. Rockingham Public Library personnel will present the program, reviewing books from the collection and citing current programs. Members are reminded to bring nonperishable food and personal care items to be donated to the Fall Mountain Food Shelf.

Marlboro Grad Center hosts open house
BRATTLEBORO - If you've been curious about what Marlboro College's Graduate & Professional Studies has to offer, Saturday, Nov. 12, will provide an opportunity to experience their programs in management and education first-hand.
Prospective students can meet faculty and current students, sit in on a class, share a meal, and learn about the school's programs. After lunch, one-on-one meetings with admissions staff will take place, or participants can sit in on more classes or explore on their own. In the evening, soon-to-be graduates will make presentations.

AARP Tax-Aide program seeks volunteers
BRATTLEBORO - The local AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program in Brattleboro and Bellows Falls is looking to add volunteers to its volunteer income tax team for the coming tax season.
Volunteers offer free tax-filing help on federal and state returns, making a positive contribution to the community by helping low- and moderate-income taxpayers file their returns. Experience isn't necessary. Volunteers will receive training toward IRS certification.

CCV Job Hunt Helper offers career services at Brooks Library
BRATTLEBORO - Through Dec, 18, Community College of Vermont Job Hunt Helper Danielle Braverman will be available at the Brooks Memorial Library at 224 Main St. for six hours a week to offer career services to library patrons and job seekers.
Job Hunt Helpers can help job seekers find employment opportunities, write a resume and cover letter, apply for jobs online, assess skills and interests, use the internet to explore career options, and learn about education and training programs.
