Hello to everybody in southern Vermont! We've flipped the switch to Autumn, and I'm afraid summer lovers are going to be pining for warmth until the Spring at this rate. Despite the potential for a couple of warmer periods, the last warm-up appears to arrive the first and/or second week in November. Beyond that, we're heading into Winter, my friends. The coming season will not be like last year's, from what I can see at this point. But, that's off in the future. Let's handle what's transpiring this week, shall we?
For Wednesday, high pressure will move east over our region, and will bring cold air with it. While we'll enjoy substantial sunshine, high temperatures will only reach into the mid 40s in the valley, and upper 30s in the mountainous regions of western Windham County.
By Wednesday night, calm winds and initially-clear skies will allow for radiational cooling to form. This will allow temps to drop into the low to mid 20s overnight! This will be the coldest night of the new cold season, and it just so happens to occur as low pressure makes its move at us for Thursday.
By Thursday morning, we should be overcast, with snow moving in by late morning, the way it looks now. Folks in western Windham County could see 1 to 4 inches of snow from this system before a change to ice and/or rain occurs into the night. Valley locations should see snow, as well, but it will likely only coat grassy surfaces. Still, expect slick conditions in some county locations.
Rain will continue Thursday night and let up by Friday morning as the low pulls away, leaving us with a blustery and cool day, with partly to mostly cloudy skies on average. Highs Friday will reach the mid 40s in the valley, and upper 30s in the mountains. Winds could gust to 30 mph.
By Saturday and Sunday, another low will swoop down from the northwest and bring more rain showers Saturday afternoon and evening, which could last until Sunday. There also could be a mix with snow in the mountains again. Highs will reach into the low 50s from the weekend into next week, when sunnier and fairer weather should rules our skies Monday and Tuesday.
Have a great week, and gear up for Winter my friends!
