SAXTONS RIVER — I feel compelled to reply to Sandy Golden's letter regarding my column.
I would remind Ms. Golden, and our readers, that Hillary Clinton is running for president, not her husband. It is her merit we must consider, not his sexual history or their marital relationship.
It is perhaps worth noting as well that a great many former presidents, including Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy had extramarital affairs while in office, and we once had the good grace to ignore their behavior so long as it did not affect issues of state.
This election is about nothing less than democracy versus tyranny.
The choice before us should be more than clear: one candidate has a proven record of service and years of experience in the political arena as a first lady, a senator, and a secretary of state.
The other - an obvious egomaniac with delusions of grandeur but no relevant experience - has a record of slander, lying, illegal behavior, inciting hatred and violence, and insulting a vast number of individuals and constituencies.
I wonder which of these two candidates would make Ms. Golden and others of similar persuasion feel most comfortable having the nuclear codes.
