Open Music Collective offers fall classes

BRATTLEBORO — Starting Sept. 26 at 5 p.m., Open Music Collective will offer fall classes in Jazz Vocal Repertoire and Jazz Ensemble.

In Vocal Jazz Repertoire (Sept. 26, at 5 p.m.), students will work on learning songs, writing charts, interacting with rhythm sections, counting off tunes, and improvising, according to a news release. There is limited room for participants, but all are encouraged to enroll.

Jazz Ensembles will resume Sept. 28 at 5 p.m., with a special Youth Ensemble on Saturdays at 10 a.m. Students will put together a short concert of music rehearsed and discussed in classes. Improvisational ideas are shared and music is explored in playing, listening, and historical aspects. All ages and instruments are encouraged to sign up.

Each class is directed by Jamie MacDonald and will meet eight times, culminating with a Nov. 20 recital. The cost is $225 for adults and $175 for students under 18. There is a $50 discount if you take both fall courses.

The Jazz jam is at its new time, 11 a.m. on the second Sunday of the month. Open Music Collective also offers private lessons by Louisa Engle (violin/traditional music), Kate Parsons (piano), Stephen Amidon (drums), Ben Carr (drums and ukulele), Jamie MacDonald (bass, theory, improvisation/jazz) and Dan Thomas (guitar).
