Bye bye, humidity

Fair weather begins to build

Good morning, afternoon, evening, or night to you! The heavy duty air soup we've all been cooking - I mean living - in is starting to finally break down in terms of its influence in southern Vermont. We've had a strong Bermuda High in place in the western Atlantic Ocean, and that has been pumping the moisture into the region lately.

While some isolated shower chances are possible Wednesday and Thursday, we should enjoy drier and sunnier weather Friday through Sunday before a cold front moves into the region by early next week with more wet weather possible. Beyond that? We could receive an early holiday present from Canada in the form of a drier and cooler air mass. Yes, please! Summer lovers can mail their rotten tomatoes to 123 Autumn-Lover Boulevard, Done-With-Summer, MA 12345.

For Wednesday, the first half of the day will begin with clouds and some scattered drizzle or showers. Thereafter the frontal boundary that passed through Tuesday night will pull away, leaving us with a partly sunny day for the second half of Wednesday. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. Lows will step down into the upper 50s, as drier air slowly moves in.

On Thursday, another weak frontal boundary will move through our region, and could spark some isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the hilly and mountainous terrain of western and northern Windham County, but valley locations could see a few spritzes, too. Highs will reach into the low 80s with partly sunny skies, and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

For the period of Friday through Sunday, we can expect fair weather and mostly sunny conditions, with highs in the low 80s, lows near 60 degrees, and drier weather.

By Sunday afternoon and evening, we could start to cloud up, in advance of another cold front. This should bring us scattered showers and thunderstorms Sunday night into at least Monday. Highs are expected to be 75-80 degrees, though the humidity will increase in advance of the frontal passage.

Beyond that? We could get a real shot of cooler, drier Canadian air in here by the middle of next week. We still need lots of rain, to be sure. But I'm starting to hope for an earlier Fall pattern to get some rainy Nor'easters in here to help with drought alleviation.

Here's hoping.
