Speaking of wind, the strong-to-severe thunderstorms early in the week have given way to a cooler, drier, and more-pleasant flow out of the west and northwest. I don't know about you, but this is the kind of summer weather I can tolerate. However, all you heat lovers will get another chance to bask in your summery glory once this weekend arrives as we push to near 90 degrees.
For Wednesday, high pressure continues to dominate and move eastward into southern Vermont. After some patchy fog in the morning, high temperatures will reach the upper 70s on average, with a few spots flirting with 80 degrees.
We'll enjoy a light westerly breeze at times. With dewpoint temperatures soundly in the 50s, and low air temperatures about the same, a very comfortable night for sleeping will be appreciated by all.
By Thursday, we start to warm again, as the high pressure center continues to move south and east of the region. If a high is to our south, once its longitudinal axis passes to the east of a location, its clockwise flow begins to advect (weather speak for “transport”) air in from a southwesterly direction. In the summer, that usually means a hotter and more humid air mass begins to mix into the region.
And that is exactly what will begin later on Thursday, and be in full force from Friday through the weekend, along with some chances at seeing scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Thursday's highs will reach into the mid 80s with more sunshine expected, with lows in the low to mid 60s.
On Friday, a system will move through the flow and, combined with some overall instability and higher surface moisture, could produce scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with highs in the upper 80s.
Saturday looks sunnier and muggy, with highs again in the upper 80s and dewpoint temperatures in the 60s. An isolated shower can't be ruled out.
On Sunday, a cold front will be approaching the region, with another chance for showers and thunderstorms. If the front passes late on Sunday, some more robust storm cells may get their act together. Highs again in the upper 80s, and humid.
By Monday and Tuesday of next week, we'll cool and dry a bit, with highs in the mid 80s.
