BRATTLEBORO — The Elliot Street Bridge closed for repairs June 27. The bridge will remained closed for approximately two months.
Selectboard Chair David Gartenstein said at the June 21 Selectboard meeting that the town has placed signage at all the connecting streets surrounding the bridge.
Travelers will need to detour around the area because the bridge is completely closed.
Gartenstein said drivers should expect “travel challenges” through downtown while the bridge undergoes repairs. He thanked everyone who might experience delays in advance for their patience.
The Department of Public Works restricted traffic on the bridge to one lane in 2014 after the discovery of a hole in the bridge's surface, called the deck.
Vermont Agency of Transportation employees will make repairs to the almost 70-year-old bridge's deck. Funding for the project is coming through the state's accelerated bridge program.
