BRATTLEBORO — Community College of Vermont (CCV) is partnering with G.S. Precision to offer a Certified Production Technician (CPT) course in Brattleboro, beginning May 18.
This course is the first step in establishing a manufacturing pathway to help G.S. Precision close a skills gap at its Brattleboro facility and to help workers receive the necessary training to fill open positions.
Courses like the CPT help workers advance their careers by developing specialized skills that G.S. Precision and other Vermont manufacturers are looking for in their new employees.
“G.S. Precision is excited to work with CCV to provide the local community opportunities to build careers in the Precision Machining Field,” said G.S. Precision President and CEO Norm Schneeberger in a news release.
The pathway developed by CCV and G.S. Precision will guide prospective manufacturing employees through the CPT course, which would then lead to a position at G.S. Precision in Brattleboro.
This training will also be available to current G.S. Precision employees to help them expand their existing skill set and achieve the credentials for professional advancement. Everyone who completes the training course will receive a nationally recognized certification that sets them apart in the manufacturing field, according to the news release.
“Many Vermont manufacturers have job openings, but they often talk about the difficulty of finding qualified workers to fill them,” said Penne Lynch, CCV's director of workforce development. “CCV is working with companies from around the state to help them meet this challenge and provide workforce education and training to hundreds of Vermont workers.”
The CPT training program consists of four individual certificate modules: Safety, Quality Practices & Measurement, Manufacturing Processes & Production, and Maintenance Awareness.
