East stairwell at Transportation Center to close for repairs
BRATTLEBORO - The stairwell on the east side of the Brattleboro Transportation Center will be closed temporarily to allow for a complete replacement of the stair unit.
In addition, there will be a temporary closure of the rear portion of the alleyway between 77 Flat St. and 64 Elliot St. to protect the public during construction and to allow crews unobstructed access to the job site. The work will be performed by Wright Construction of Mt. Holly.
The project, which is expected to begin on May 2, at 8 a.m., will continue until it is complete, with an anticipated completion date no later than May 31. Parking vehicles in the Brattleboro Transportation Center won't be affected by the stairwell closure, but pedestrians seeking to exit the facility will be limited to the western stairwell.
The elevator adjacent to the affected stairwell should remain open throughout the majority of the project, but may also be closed to public access for short periods of time.
The Town Manager's Office said it regrets the inconvenience and will reopen the stairwell at the earliest possible opportunity. Please direct questions or concerns to the Office at 802-251-8151.
Book Sale in Guilford on April 30
GUILFORD - Guilford Community Church, UCC, will hold its annual Book Sale on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An excellent selection of current books will be for sale. This fundraiser aids the church in supporting many human-service organizations, both locally and globally.

Crafting for the Homeless concludes for season
WEST BRATTLEBORO - Come join the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community (BAJC), Congregation Shir Heharim, on Sunday, May 1, from 1 to 3 p.m., to craft hats, scarves, blankets and sleeping mats from yarn and fleece fabric for the area's homeless population.
Crafting for the Homeless is completing its second year of meeting on the first Sunday of the month at BAJC. This will be their last session until the fall

Hospice seeks donations of treasures, curios
BRATTLEBORO - Dig deep into your closets, dressers, attics, and barns. Brattleboro Area Hospice is asking the community to pull out the treasures that once meant so much to you but now might mean more to someone else.
They are looking for smaller items; specialty knick-knacks and curios, scarves, retro and fun clothing, period jewelry, art, and other unique collector's items. Smaller furniture is also welcome. They seek these special and unique donations as contributions to their newest extension of the Experienced Goods shopping experiences: Pop-Up@77Flat. The event is an online shopping opportunity that will pop up monthly.
A new themed window at Experienced Goods at 77 Flat St., featuring each month's auction items, will be unveiled at 5 p.m. on the first Friday of each month starting May 6. The online auction will go live at that time and will run throughout the month. All communication will take place online with bidders notified of their bid's status.
Auctions will run from May through November - seven different auctions in total - with a grand and fun-filled live pop-up shopping extravaganza taking place in December. Instructions on how and where to bid will be available at www.brattleborohospice.org or at Experienced Goods beginning Monday, May 2.
As this event will be taking place throughout 2016, keep your eyes open for possible treasures. Donations can be delivered to Experienced Goods on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Call 802-254-8174 if you have items to donate. Pick up is possible.
Post Office hosts Passport Fair

Lions serve breakfast on Mother's Day
HINSDALE, N.H. - The Hinsdale Lions will put on a Mother's Day Breakfast on Sunday, May 8, at the Mill Stream Center on Main Street.
Serving time will be from 7 to 11 a.m., and the cost is $6 for advance tickets, or $7 at the door. Kids under 10 eat free. Menu includes scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, juice, toast, and coffee. Proceeds benefit the Hinsdale Lions Charities.

Cuban, U.S. history examined at Brooks Library
BRATTLEBORO - The Friends of the Brooks Library invite the public to a free, illustrated presentation about historical perspectives on Cuba and the U.S. on Sunday, May 8, at 3:30 p.m., on the Main Floor of Brooks Memorial Library.
Tim Weed, novelist, lecturer, and long-time observer of Cuba, will highlight past history and current changes in Cuban and American political, economic and social relations.
This is a Vermont Humanities Council event hosted by the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library.
Public invited to 'Trail Talk' for I-91 bridge project
BRATTLEBORO - The PCL FIGG Team will conduct the next on-site “trail talk” for the public on Saturday, May 14.
There has been a lot of progress at the I-91 Brattleboro Bridge project site since the last trail talk. The talk will originate at the West River Trail near the marina. The trail talk will be led by Caleb Linn, project manager for PCL (lead contractor) and William Johnson, Senior Quality Engineer for FIGG (bridge designer).
Interested participants should meet the PCL FIGG Team at the West River Trail trailhead on Saturday, May 14, at 8 a.m.; the talk will begin at 8:15 a.m. Participants will walk the trail to the I-91 bridge site, so wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Youth music festival accepting registrations
BRATTLEBORO - BrattRock, the Brattleboro Youth Rock Festival, is coming to Brattleboro on Oct. 1.
A celebration of young musical talent, BrattRock's mission is to provide a venue for area youth musicians and bands to gather, connect, learn, perform, inspire, and be inspired. Participation is open to youth musicians and bands with all members under 20 years of age.
The one-day event features music workshops for youth, offered by local adult music professionals and educators and culminates with an evening concert with performances by participating youth musical acts. Registration is now open at www.brattrock.org/.
WRWA offers scholarships
BRATTLEBORO - The Windham Regional Woodlands Association (WRWA) is currently seeking prospective or current students interested in natural-resource management to apply for scholarships for the fall 2016 and spring 2017 semesters.
Up to three $1,500 scholarships will be awarded ($750 per semester) to Windham County residents who attend two- or four-year college programs in natural-resource management, forest management, or related majors. The deadline for applying for the Fall 2016 semester is May 15.
