• Jan Paula Chamberlain, 63, of Wardsboro. Died April 7 at her home. She was born Jan. 16, 1953, in Mount Kisco, N.Y. In 1971, instead of graduating from high school, she decided to hitchhike across the country with her future husband, Arthur Chamberlain Jr. (she did eventually complete her degree from John F. Kennedy High School). After traveling 13,000 miles across the country and parts of Canada for a little over a year, they got married in 1972 and finally settled down in Atlanta, where she gave birth to her first son, Joshua. In Atlanta, she worked as a duo with Arthur cooking in a restaurant. Three years later, she gave birth to her daughter, Ivy, in Vero Beach, Fla., while studying to be a nurse. Her next move was to Kent, Conn., where she and her husband bought and operated the Bulls Bridge Inn. Zackary, her second son, was born during the renovation of this latest endeavor. After the sale of the restaurant, Jan and her family returned to Yorktown, N.Y., completing her circle around the country and giving birth to her third son, Samuel. Tiring of the suburban shuffle, she and her husband decided to pursue the dream of owning a Vermont country store, and the family moved to Wardsboro in 1991. She is remembered for enhancing the lives of the people around her in many small, almost unnoticed, ways, and also remember her as a hell of a dancer. Her daughter believes she would not have survived her first week being a new mother without her and her granddaughters' belief that they “had the greatest spa days ever!” at grandma's house. She is also survived by her three sisters; Joanne Badger of Clinton, N.Y.; Judy Beale of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and Jean Bieluczyk of Waterbury, Conn. MEMORIAL INFORMATION: As an avid reader, she would want any donations sent in her memory to the Wardsboro Public Library, 170 Main St., Wardsboro VT, 05355. There will be a memorial service later this summer.

Anyone who knew him knew how much he genuinely cared for his family and friends. Due to the care, understanding and coaching Wilson provided, he stayed committed to the game and became a star player for the Connecticut Valley Fever AAU basketball team, coached by Mike Eno.
