BRATTLEBORO — Two members of the Brattleboro Boys & Girls Club have been named to serve on the steering committee for the “diplomas 2 Degrees” (d2D), conference in June. Jordan Baldwin-Page and Derrick Harnish, both of Brattleboro, spent two days with youth from New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut planning the three-day conference.
The d2D conference is being hosted again this year by The Boys & Girls Club of Manchester N.H. d2D is the Boys & Girls Club's college-readiness program, providing a range of services to guide club members as they work toward high school graduation and prepare for post-secondary education and career success.
The 200-plus teens attending the conference will spend a weekend at Southern New Hampshire University - sleeping in the dorms, eating in the dining hall, and taking workshops in everything from picking a major to college culture and being away from home.
Baldwin-Page and Harnish both attended the conference last year and say they are looking forward to being part of the team who puts together this year's conference. Baldwin-Page is a junior at BUHS and is looking forward to studying journalism after high school. Harnish, a BUHS sophomore, plans to study political science.
Both attribute their decisions about what they want to major in and what kind of school they want to attend to being part of d2D and attending the conference in the past.
