Concert with Eugene Uman, Bob Stabach to benefit Shambhala Meditation Center

BRATTLEBORO — Saxophonist and composer Bob Stabach, keyboardist and Director of the Vermont Jazz Center Eugene Uman, and special guest percussionist Stephan Brandstatter will present spiritual songs and contemplative improvisations in a benefit concert at the Brattleboro Shambhala Meditation Center Sunday, April 3, at 2 p.m.

The concert will aid the meditation center in meeting operating expenses. The Shambhala Meditation Center is part of the worldwide Shambhala Meditation community begun by Tibetan Master Chogyum Trungpa and operates by donation. It is located at Studio VI, in the Whetstone Studio for the Arts at 28 Williams St.

All are welcome to attend this performance by two of Brattleboro’s leading jazz performers.

Stabach has a master’s degree from the University of Connecticut School of Music. He has played and composed for various jazz groups in the New England region and is the leader of the Bob Stabach Quartet. He recently released his first jazz CD, “Light Forms.”

Uman has a master’s degree in Jazz Performance from Queens College, where he received a Eubie Blake Scholarship. He is a composer and has given workshops at the university level in jazz composition, jazz theory and harmony, jazz improvisation, jazz pedagogy, and jazz history and appreciation.

According to his bio on the Southern Vermont Dance Festival website, Brandstatter has worked with singer songwriters, blues guitarists, new music ensembles, rock bands, jazz ensembles, mimes, modern and classical dancers and in theatre, and is a Gong Master. He is working on a recording project for release in 2016.
