Transition Dummerston to discuss Permaculture
DUMMERSTON - This month's Transition Dummerston potluck and program will be held on Friday, Feb. 26, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Southeast Vermont Learning Collaborative, at 471 Putney Rd., (Route 5). The program will be a discussion of permaculture, following up on the two recent showings of the film, Inhabit.
When the film was shown at the last monthly potluck, there was such strong interest in the ideas in the film that the group decided to devote another program to permaculture, and how to begin to collaborate on implementing its perspectives in the community.
The program is free and open to the public, and people from surrounding towns are encouraged to come and join in the conversation. Potluck at 6 p.m., (local food encouraged) followed by discussion from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, contact Bill at 802-257-1020 or Susal at 802-275-7449.
Bake sale at Putney Town Meeting
PUTNEY - The Four Winds Nature Program volunteers at Putney Central School (PCS) will be hosting a Bake Sale at the Putney Town Meeting on March 1.
A wide variety of baked goods will be available all day, including coffee, tea, cider, cookies, fruit, muffins, doughnuts, etc. They are in need of donations for the bake sale table. Donations can be dropped off the morning of the meeting or in the PCS office the day before.
This fundraiser supports continued provision of a fun, hands-on, nature science program for all students in K-5. It is taught by parent and community volunteers who are trained by the Four Winds Nature Institute.
Dummerston Community Center to host Pampered Chef fundraiser
DUMMERSTON - Dummerston Community Center's Annual Pampered Chef event will be held Saturday, March 5, from 12:55-2:55 p.m. at the Center, located at 150 West Street in West Dummerston.
Kim Martin will host the show, with new spring products, recipes, demonstrations of many cooking needs, also hands-on-cooking and the tasting of spices, sauces, and rubs. There will be special drawings throughout the show. Proceeds will assist in operating expenses for the Community Center.

United Church to serve New England boiled dinner
BELLOWS FALLS - The United Church of Bellows Falls, School St., will host a New England boiled dinner on Saturday, March 5, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
On the menu will be corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, rolls, pickled beets, cake, and beverages. The cost is $11 for adults, $6 for ages 5-12, and children under 5 eat free. Take out is available.

DUMMERSTON - Registration for the incoming Kindergarten class will be on Tuesday, March 29.

Applicants sought for Robert L. Crowell Scholarships
NEWFANE - Moore Free Library is offering a total of $12,000 in scholarships, funded by the family of the late Robert L. Crowell. These awards are open to qualified students residing in Newfane, Williamsville, South Newfane, and Brookline who will be entering their first year of college, trade, or vocational post secondary education this fall.
The scholarship committee will consider academics, contributions to the community, and financial need. The number of scholarships awarded and the award amounts will be determined by the applications received.
Applications should include a cover page, a brief autobiography (including plans for continued study and the name of the school to which the student has been accepted), high-school transcript, and a letter of reference. Marlboro College announces Board Leadership Institute
MARLBORO - The Center for New Leadership at Marlboro College has announced the 2016 Board Leadership Institute (BLI), a collection of workshops that introduce board members to the most important knowledge and skills for successful board service.
BLI workshops are attended by local board members and Get On Board Windham County Fellows who are interested in board service. The cross-generational learning environment benefits both groups as they learn how to work together while deepening their understanding of key aspects of board service.
Board participants report being being more knowledgeable, active, and effective members of their boards as a result of their participation in the BLI program. Fellows are energized and can jump into board service with knowledge and skills that make them valued board members from their very first board meeting.
Boards can sign up for a 'Through Pass' which allows them to send any two members to each of the 8 workshops. Individuals may choose to attend the sessions on an a-la-carte basis.

Scholarships available for older college students
BELLOWS FALLS - The General Federation of Women's Clubs of Vermont (GFWC-VT) has scholarships available for Vermont women who have been homemakers and who have lost their main means of support through separation or divorce from their spouse or the death, disability, or long term unemployment of their spouse.
Eligible women are in need of education or training to enter the work force. Applicants must submit a specific plan for their education or training. Applications are due to the scholarship chairman, Midge Tucker, by March 15; her contact information is listed below and on the application.
The scholarships range from $500 to $1500. This is the 22nd year of awarding this financial aid, which is funded through contributions from the state federated clubs and from individuals.
