Next WBA meeting scheduled for July 9
WEST BRATTLEBORO - The next monthly meeting of the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) will be held at the New England House restaurant, 254 Marlboro Rd., on Thursday, July 9, at 6 p.m.
After a review of the treasury report, the WBA will tackle organizational issues such as progress toward making the group officially nonprofit. There will also be discussion of a letter to the Planning Commission regarding notification to abutters about public hearings when the abutting property is owned by a co-operative or collective.
There is also the idea of forming a West B Welcoming Program. Another topic will be how best to recognize beautification efforts.
The group will also discuss details regarding the joint mixer with the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce scheduled for Thursday, July 16, at 5:30 p.m., to be held again this year at the New England House.
Area businesses and residents are invited to this event. Hors d'oeuvres will be served. A suggested, voluntary donation of $5 to $10 will be collected at the door to help offset the cost of the hors d'oeuvres.
Healing Walk at Manitou
WILLIAMSVILLE - The Manitou Project will hold a Healing Walk on Friday, July 10, from 4 to 6 p.m., rain or shine.
This meditative walk on Manitou's Sanctuary Trail will be led by Ryan Murphy, and will include poems or other readings, and chances to share about the experience. Healing walks will be held every second and fourth Friday of each month until October.

Grafton Cornet Band to play outdoor concert
GRAFTON -The Grafton Cornet Band will present an outdoor concert on the Library lawn on Main Street (Route 121), on Sunday, July 12, at 4 p.m.
If there's rain, the concert will be moved inside to the White Church.
The band plans an informal, hour-long mix of familiar and upbeat music for the whole family in beautiful surroundings. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Bring chairs or a blanket, and maybe a picnic. More information: www.graftonband.org or 802-387-4145.
'Liar from Vermont' book launch at Memorial Hall
WILMINGTON - Pettee Memorial Library and Bartleby's Books will celebrate the publication of Laura Stevenson's new novel, Liar from Vermont.
Stevenson, who is from Wilmington, will read from her new novel on Tuesday, July 14, at 7 p.m., at Memorial Hall in downtown Wilmington.
She is the award-winning author of four novels for young adults and one for adults, a book on Elizabethan literature and society, several articles on the golden age of children's literature, and three essays on deafness. She was trained as a historian at the University of Michigan Honors College and Yale University, and she taught writing and humanities at Marlboro College from 1986 to 2013.
Peggy Hamilton, the lead character in Liar from Vermont, is the third daughter in a Midwestern academic family that summers in Vermont. But in Peggy's imagination, she is from Vermont - from the hill farm across the way, with its rhythms of milking, haying, and working horses.
The 10 interlocking stories of Liar from Vermont follow Peggy's quest for belonging: to a family, to a time, and to a place. Set in the mid-1950s and early 1960s, she witnesses the irrevocable change in her beloved state whose mountains are becoming ski areas and whose farms are giving way to villages of second homes. It is a poignant portrait of a girl who sees the truth she embellishes all too clearly, and who learns that no amount of skill can make her stories of the people she loves turn out the way she wants.

Asbury Church plans blueberry supper
CHESTERFIELD, N.H. - Asbury Church will serve a blueberry supper on Saturday, July 18, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Chesterfield Town Hall, located on Route 63 near the school and library.
Catch up on the local goings-on while enjoying baked ham, a variety of summer salads, dinner rolls, and iced tea or lemonade, followed by homemade blueberry pie and assorted desserts.
