VSO returns to Grafton Ponds for annual Independence Day concert

GRAFTON — The annual Vermont Symphony Orchestra Summer Festival Tour will again stop at Grafton Ponds Outdoor Center on Friday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m.

The concert, presented with the Windham Foundation and the generous support of an anonymous donor, is a celebration of the long-awaited coming of summer, complete with picnics, pops, and fireworks.

“We start getting calls about our Summer Festival Tour around February,” says Marketing Director Amy Caldwell. “This tour has become a Vermont summer tradition, and we love bringing an evening of great music and fireworks - paired with our fans' perfect picnics - to spectacular outdoor settings across Vermont.”

The Vermont Symphony Orchestra is the only professional statewide orchestra that provides live musical experiences for listeners throughout the state. To celebrate 80 years of concerts, the VSO has commissioned seven Vermont composers to write 80-second fanfares which will open each of the full orchestra concerts.

Peter Hamlin will be the featured composer at this concert with his piece, “The Ghost of John Philip Sousa.”

As if a summer's evening in Vermont weren't magical enough already, under the baton of principal guest conductor, Anthony Princiotti, the VSO feature music from Glinka, Dvorak, Debussy, Glazunov, Berlioz, Grieg, Williams, and Shore.

As always, the concert concludes with Tchaikovsky's spectacular 1812 Overture, marches, and fireworks.
