BRATTLEBORO — Write Action announces its 12th annual Poetry and Prose Writing Contest.
There is no theme this year. Entries in poetry and prose will be judged anonymously. The first place winners in both categories will be awarded $100, second place winners get $50, and third place winners $25 each. All will have the opportunity to read at this year's Literary Festival.
Each category will judged by an esteemed writer from the Vermont writing community. The judge for poetry will be Chard DiNiord, prose judge will be Deborah Luskin, and the judge for both prose and poetry in the youth category will be Toni Ortner.
In the youth category for ages 18 and under: First-place winners in poetry and prose will be awarded a $25 gift certificate. There will be honorable mentions in each category.
All entries must be postmarked by June 30.
Writers may submit up to 3 prose pieces (first one is free, $5 for each additional), and/or up to 4 one-page poems (first two poems are free, $5 for each additional). There are no fees for the youth category.
Email entries as one document (except cover letter sent as separate document) to [email protected], with WA Contest in the subject line, or send a hard copy of your submission to Write Action Contest, P.O. Box 822, Brattleboro, VT 05302, postmarked no later than June 30.
Prose items will be limited to 1,500 words (please double-space);
Poems are limited to one page each (may be single-spaced). No more than one poem to a page, each to be judged separately.
The author's name should not appear in any form on the submitted piece(s), only on one cover page for all poetry and one cover page for all prose submissions, listing titles and with phone number, email address, and postal address also included on cover page only, for anonymous judging.
Youth entries: indicate on cover page “Youth Entry.”
