Bruce Anderson is featured artist at Wardsboro Library

WARDSBORO — The Wardsboro Public Library's Artist of the Month Exhibition for June is presenting the paintings, ship models, and duck decoy carvings of Bruce Anderson.

An artist's reception, with refreshments, is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, June 23, at 7 p.m. The event is free and all are welcome.

Anderson of West Wardsboro is a self-taught painter and craftsman. He has expressed his artistic talent in many forms, watercolors, building ship models, and carving ducks.

In the early 1980s, when Anderson worked at Mount Snow as a ski patrolman, he and fellow patrolman Bob Angell, who is internationally known for his photography, spent their leisure hours during the winter learning to carve duck decoys. They studied the books and tapes of Jim Sprankle, a highly accomplished waterfowl artist and carver working in Florida.

An avid fisherman and hunter, Anderson fell in love with Vermont on his many trips from Worcester, Mass., where he was studying business at the University of Massachusetts. In 1977, he put up a house in Vermont, and put down roots. He met his wife Andi in 1978; they have three children. “Now that our youngest has graduated from UVM's School of Nursing, I hope to find the time to get back into my duck carving,” he says.

The library is located at 170 Main Street in Wardsboro. The exhibit runs until the end of the month; the artwork is not offered for sale. The display is open during library hours, Monday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings until 1 p.m., and Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons until 7 p.m. The library is closed on holidays. There is no charge to view the exhibit.
