BFUHS ranked sixth in Vermont by U.S. News and World Report

BELLOWS FALLS — For the second year in a row, Bellows Falls Union High School was ranked by the US News and World Report Education ranking.

In the 2015 US News' Best High School rankings, Bellows Falls Union High School (BFUHS) was ranked sixth and was awarded a silver medal. To be eligible for a state ranking, a school must be awarded a national gold or silver medal. Last year, BFUHS was ranked in the top 15 schools in Vermont.

BFUHS Principal Christopher Hodsden commended the work of his students, teachers, and support personnel.

“As with last year's recognition, this type of recognition is predominantly about the hard work and dedication of those folks who guide the academic work (teachers), those who do the high quality academic work (students), and those who work behind the scenes (support staff) to take care of the other important work so that the first two groups can focus on the teaching and learning (support staff),” said Hodsden in a news release.

BFUHS students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement course work and exams. The AP participation rate at Bellows Falls Union High School is 33 percent.

The student body makeup is 56 percent male and 44 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 5 percent, according to the US News and World Report Education website, www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/vermont?int=9abb08.
