Get on Board presents “Meet Your Match” event

BRATTLEBORO — Get On Board Windham County will present an opportunity for local nonprofits to engage with community members at a “Meet Your Match” event on Thursday, May 14, at Marlboro College Graduate Center on Vernon Street.

The goal of the event is to help nonprofit boards meet potential new board members, while helping community members connect with nonprofit organizations.

Prospective board members, including any members of the community at large interested in board service, can attend the Meet Your Match event at no cost. The event will run from 5 to 7 p.m., and community members are encouraged to come any time and stay as long as they like. At 5:30, 6, and 6:30 p.m., Marlboro staff will present “Everything You Need to Know about Board Service in 10 Minutes or Less,” followed by a Q & A session.

The Meet Your Match event will include 18 local boards looking for board members, who have already signed up to table. These boards focus on a range of issues from local food to youth services to the arts. Onsite childcare will be available, as well as refreshments and door prizes.

The event is organized by Get On Board Windham County, a program of Marlboro College in partnership with Youth Services, United Way of Windham County, and SEVEDS. Get On Board gives local residents the opportunity to build leadership skills and personal and professional networks while serving our community. Every year, the Get On Board provides workshops and training for a group of fellows, age 22-44, who each engage with a local nonprofit board.

“Recognizing that nonprofit organizations can only be as strong as their volunteer boards, Marlboro College is committed to the growth and development of boards and their members,” according to a press release. “By popular demand, Marlboro also offered its first Board Leadership Institute this spring. These programs are both part of Marlboro's new Center for New Leadership (CNL), based in their graduate center in Brattleboro.”

Those interested in attending the Meet Your Match event are asked to register and receive the full list of boards that will be tabling at www.marlboro.edu/board. For more information, contact Ariel Brooks at [email protected].
