'Trail Talk' for I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Project is April 18
BRATTLEBORO - The PCL+FIGG Team will conduct the next on-site “trail talk” for the Public on Saturday, April 18.
There has been a lot of progress at the Interstate 91 Brattleboro Bridge Project site, which will be shared with attendees. The talks will originate at the West River Trail near the marina. The trail talk will be led by Caleb Linn, Project Manager for PCL (lead contractor) and William Johnson, Senior Quality Engineer for FIGG (bridge designer).
Interested participants should meet the PCL+FIGG Team at the West River Trail trailhead on Saturday, April 18, at 8 a.m., and the talk will begin at 8:15 a.m. Participants will walk the trail to the I-91 bridge site, so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Osher lectures on insects and the movies
DUMMERSTON - The Brattleboro Chapter of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) will hold the third in its current series of spring morning and afternoon lectures on Monday, April 20.
In the morning series of six lectures, Bob Engel, will discuss insects' nervous systems and insect behavior. In the afternoon lectures, Rick Winston will discuss influential films of the 1960s. Morning lectures run from 10 a.m. to noon; afternoon lectures, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Shoulder arthritis is topic of Wellness in Windham talk
BRATTLEBORO - As part of the Wellness in Windham Spring 2015 calendar, BMH orthopaedic surgeon Elizabeth McLarney, MD, will present a program on Monday, April 20, at 6 p.m., in the Brew Barry Conference Center. Her topic of discussion will be shoulder arthritis.
While there are many cases that call for a surgical approach to fixing a badly injured joint or a joint with little to no cartilage remaining, most patients prefer to first attempt non-surgical treatment options. At Dr. McLarney's free program, she will discuss several treatment options for shoulder arthritis. This is a great opportunity for participants to learn more and have their questions answered.

Methodists serve up turkey supper
BRATTLEBORO - The First United Methodist Church will host a turkey supper on Friday, April 24, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The menu will include turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas and squash, and cranberry sauce, along with rolls, butter, coffee and pumpkin pie for dessert. The cost of the meal is $10 for adults; free for 8 and under with adult. Proceeds will benefit the church's needs.

GUILFORD - Guilford Community Church, UCC will hold its annual Book Sale on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Garden Leader Workshop offered April 29 in Brattleboro
BRATTLEBORO - The Vermont Community Garden Network (VCGN) presents the 2015 Spring Grow It! Workshops for community and school garden leaders in partnership with Charlie Nardozzi on Wednesday, April 29, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Food Connects at Vermont Agricultural Business Education Center, 8 University Way.
VCGN brings people, ideas and resources together to help grow the community and school garden movement around the state. The spring workshops focus on strengthening garden leadership and growing a network of support for gardens. Participants will learn strategies to boost their gardens and programs, share ideas and problem-solve with fellow garden leaders. Each workshop is hosted by a local community or school garden.
Registration is $30 and includes a hearty snack. VCGN members are eligible for discounted registrations. Registration opens for Marlboro's Graduate and Professional Studies spring classes
BRATTLEBORO - Registration is now open at Marlboro College Graduate and Professional Studies for the spring 2015 trimester which begins Friday, May 8. Individual classes may be taken on a per-course, continuing education basis.
Graduate-level courses will be open in educational technology, managing for sustainability, nonprofit management, and healthcare administration. In addition, undergraduate courses in technology and management will be available, as will a one-credit clear writing workshop.
Spring trimester courses will include such popular topics as Assistive Technology and Universal Design, Nonprofit Financial Management for Leaders, and Stakeholder-Based Communication. All classes take place at Marlboro's Center for Graduate and Professional Studies, located at 28 Vernon St.

Raffle benefits Guilford fire department
GUILFORD - The Guilford Volunteer Fire Department is raffling off a handcrafted wooden toy fire truck.
The truck stands 18 inches tall, is 4 feet long, and weighs 42 pounds. It comes complete with two firemen, axes, hoses, fire extinguisher and a ladder. It has a crew cab, equipment compartments, an engine with removable spark plugs, a light bar and West Coast mirrors. The truck can even be personalized with one's department's call number or truck number.
