Vernon

Town Meeting season continues

VERNON -A Special Town Meeting has been scheduled for May 5 to take up two matters.

One was expected. A second vote on a revised town school budget was already scheduled for May 5 at the Town Office between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

At the annual Town Meeting last month, voters narrowly rejected the school budget, a result that was upheld in a recount a few days later.

Two informational meetings on the proposed budget will be presented by the School Board in the Vernon Elementary School Cafeteria on Monday, April 13 at 6 p.m., and on Monday, April 27, at 6 p.m.

The Selectboard also announced at its April 6 meeting that it received 109 signatures on a petition to reconsider a 109 to 100 vote at the annual Town Meeting to eliminate Vernon's elected Board of Auditors. As a result, voters will vote a second time on the issue on May 5.

Townspeople could be faced with a third decision - finding a replacement for longtime Selectboard member and former state representative Patty O'Donnell. She announced her resignation on April 6, at the end of the meeting.

No decision has been made on how to replace O'Donnell.

The Newfane Market, the Newfane Café and Creamery, and the Williamsville Eatery are now licensed to sell “vinous” or “spirituous” beverages by the state of Vermont.

Mold in town office

NEWFANE - An emergency Selectboard Meeting was held on March 23. The urgency was to address the problem of mold in the town offices.
