NEWFANE — This winter's brouhaha over the Newfane town charter has got lots of people paying more attention to governance in our town.
That's a good thing. An even better thing is that some of these concerned folks have chosen to run for the Newfane Selectboard.
My friend and neighbor, Carol Hatcher, is one of them, and I couldn't be happier. She is pretty darn close to an ideal candidate: smart, hard-working, fair, honest, and clear-headed. Before she makes a decision - any decision - she will muster and master all the facts she possibly can.
She treasures this beautiful land we live on, and she loves our town. I trust her to steward our community's resources wisely, even as the times we live in keep bringing more and bigger challenges to rural areas like ours.
Carol's generosity of spirit and her common-sense, bottom-dollar frugal wisdom couldn't possibly come to Newfane at a better time.
I urge you to get to know Carol, and to support her with your vote on Town Meeting Day on Tuesday, March 3.
