BRATTLEBORO — On Saturday, Feb. 21, musician and educator Ben Carr is hosting two ukulele workshops followed by a solo ukulele performance at the Open Music Collective, located at 74 Cotton Mill Hill, Studio A-335.
The Beginner Ukulele Workshop is from noon to 2 p.m. If you always wanted to learn how to play the uke but didn't know where to begin, this is your chance. Topics covered include posture, basic chords, strumming, singing, and a bit of uke history. Workshop cost is $10, and includes entry to the concert.
The Intermediate/Advanced Ukulele Workshop is to be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Attendees must have some knowledge of chord structures and playing the ukulele. Topics covered include varied strumming patterns, alternate chords, and chord melody arrangements. Workshop cost is $10, and includes entry to the concert.

At 6 p.m., Carr offers a solo ukulele performance. Carr is known for his unique approach to the ukulele, by using intricate strum patterns, percussive tones and harmonic textures. He fuses traditional techniques and classical styles to modern songwriting, and thrives on taking the instrument to places that are not commonly explored.
Admission for this concert is $8 at the door, or free to workshop attendees.
