Petitions available for Brattleboro town elections
BRATTLEBORO - Petitions for Town and Town School District officers and Town Meeting Members are available at the Town Clerk's office.
Town elections are Tuesday, March 3, in the Selectboard Meeting Room of the Municipal Center. Annual Representatives Town Meeting is Saturday, March 21, in the BAMS multi-purpose room.
Petitions for town officers must contain at least 30 valid signatures of registered Brattleboro voters and be filed in the clerk's office no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, in order for their names to be placed on the ballot.
Candidates for Town Meeting Member must file a nomination petition with at least 10 valid signatures of voters from the district where the candidate lives. Petitions of new candidates must be filed no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26 (same date as town officer petitions). Incumbents for Town Meeting Member must return their Notice of Intent form no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Merry Mulch tree collection service returns for 24th year
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Union High School Music Department is again offering the Merry Mulch Christmas tree collection service to Brattleboro residents.
This program, in its 24th year, is endorsed by the Vermont Department of Agriculture and the New Hampshire/Vermont Christmas Tree Association. For a $10 donation, members of the band and chorus will transport undecorated trees from homes to a community garden in West Brattleboro, where they will be chipped into mulch to be used by the gardeners.
As the town does not offer curbside tree pick-up, the service saves residents the hassle of transporting their own trees.
Three Saturday pick-up dates are being offered: Jan. 10, 17, and 24. All pick-ups must be arranged by calling one of the following numbers at least two days prior to your desired date: 802-254-5624, 603-828-8639, or 802-246-1220.
Proceeds will benefit travel opportunities for the chorus, Madrigals, and band.
Discount sale of 2015 calendars at Brooks library
BRATTLEBORO - The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library is selling the 2015 edition of the popular Book Lover's Calendar at the significantly reduced price of $8. The calendar can be purchased at the library's front desk while supplies last.
This innovative and informative calendar offers 365 days of good reading, from beloved classics to the best beach-blanket reads, histories, biographies, and self-help titles. Each day features a lively, opinionated capsule review and suggestions for further reading.
Proceeds are to benefit the library and will be used to purchase books, services, and Children's Room materials.

BF Woman's Club to meet
BELLOWS FALLS - The Bellows Falls Woman's Club, member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church on School Street.
Members of the GFWC of Southern Windsor County (Springfield) will be guests of the local club. The program will be presented by a speaker from Burdick's Chocolates of Walpole, N.H. Members are reminded to turn in their logs of volunteer hours completed during 2014.
The club will host the state GFWC winter meeting at the United Church on Feb. 7.
Garden Club to meet
NEWFANE - The Newfane Garden Club holds its next meeting on Thursday, Jan. 15, at noon in the Newfane Congregational Church. Club members will create tray favors to be donated to Grace Cottage Hospital. Bring a sandwich for lunch; a beverage and dessert will be provided.
The public is welcome to attend. The club will not meet during February and March.
Writing workshop rescheduled at RFPL
BELLOWS FALLS - Elayne Clift's writers' workshop, “Life Stories: Memories of Love, Action and Thought” at the Rockingham Free Public Library has been rescheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Through interesting prompts and facilitated exercises, award-winning author Elayne Clift will guide participants as they write and share stories. Come prepared to compose, share, and laugh, and to discover your inner writer. Brown-bag lunches and laptops are welcome.
