Once grandchildren entered his life, he was a doting grandpa to the next generation. Before his health began failing, he travelled east several times to visit his daughter Nancy in Vermont. He especially enjoyed meeting her church family at the Guilford Community Church and her friends and neighbors. Growing up on a farm, he was always drawn to animals.
