BRATTLEBORO — Hilltop Montessori School, The Winston Prouty Center, Building Bright Futures, and Windham Childcare present an evening with parenting educator and nationally renowned author Bonnie Harris on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m., on the Hilltop Montessori School campus. The event is free and childcare and pizza for the children will be provided.
Bonnie Harris is the director of Connective Parenting and has been a parenting specialist for 25 years. Parent educator, professional trainer, counselor, author, and international speaker, Harris is known for her pioneering mindset shift out of the reward and punishment model to a connected relationship.
In 1990, she founded The Parent Guidance Center in New Hampshire. Based on her book, “When Your Kids Push Your Buttons,” Harris teaches Buttons parent workshops and professional trainings internationally. Her second book, “Confident Parents, Remarkable Kids: 8 Principles for Raising Kids You'll Love to Live With,” distills her groundbreaking work into eight key principles and practical strategies.
Harris notes, “That certain look or defiant act, a roll of the eyes and your child 'pushes your buttons.' You say things you swore you never would and get sucked into that 'out of control' action/reaction cycle. Sound familiar? It happens to the best of us. Once those buttons are pushed, no parenting skill can save you, you react automatically, make threats you regret, and hear your mother or father coming out of your mouth saying those words you swore you would never say - the 'road rage' of parenting.”
The evening's talk, “When Your Kids Push Your Buttons: What's Happening and What can I Do About It” will focus on the concepts outlined in her first book, including some from her second as well.
