CCV, Vermont Tech looks forward to a new era in Brooks House

BRATTLEBORO — On Monday morning, a pair of moving vans waited patiently in the Harmony Lot. Inside the vans was the first load of furniture and files bound for the new Community College of Vermont/Vermont Technical College academic center at 41 Harmony Place, at the rear of the Brooks House.

Both institutions are moving in this week - CCV from its Landmark Hill site off Putney Road, and Vermont Tech's Thompson School of Nursing from the Vermont Agriculture Business Education Center on 11 University Way, off Old Guilford Road.

CCV will have its offices closed from Aug. 6-8, but classes will run as scheduled at Landmark Hill.

On Monday, Aug. 11, the administrative offices of CCV and Vermont Tech will open. Fall semester classes start Tuesday, Sept. 2.

CCV students arriving that day will see a college with triple the space - 18,000 square feet compared to 6,600 square feet at Landmark Hill - that will be shared with Vermont Tech on the second and third floors of the Brooks House.

The Brattleboro CCV campus serves approximately 300 students each semester with eight full-time staff and 25 part-time faculty. The move to the Brooks House will give CCV something it lacked at Landmark Hill: lab space for science courses, and improved technology in the classrooms.

College officials say they hope to expand course offerings, particularly during the day, as the Brooks House space comes on line.
