TOWNSHEND — The Grace Cottage Hospital Fair Day is held annually on the first Saturday in August on the Townshend Common. This year's Fair Day is Aug. 2. from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The event, organized by the GCH Auxiliary, is, according to The Boston Globe, “New England at its best.”
The fair features activities to please the whole family: a live auction, bargain booths, bingo, pony rides, face painting, jewelry, food, kids' games, a costume booth for kids, a dunking booth, a baby parade for those born at GCH - led by bagpipers and the Grace Cottage stork - a chicken barbecue dinner, music by the Bills Band, and more.
This year, the fair is bringing back a wonderful tradition: an art show will be held in the Townshend Church. All fine art and crafts pieces in the show will be for sale, with a portion of proceeds going to benefit GCH.
Artists may also donate one piece to the auction. Participating artists and craftspeople may deliver their pieces to the church on Friday, Aug. 1, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
For more information about the art show, call Lois Phoenix (802-365-7568) or Pokey Lyman (802-365-7964).
Held annually for more than 60 years, the Grace Cottage Hospital Auxiliary Fair Day is a major fundraiser that helps the hospital purchase needed equipment.
All of the other proceeds from the day, including from the white elephant sale, book booth, food, bingo, and the all-day auction, go directly to the hospital.
