FairPoint Communications has announced that it will expand its broadband coverage to 270 homes and businesses in Newfane, Townshend, Whitingham, and Wilmington.
The company's new fiber-based, high-capacity network will reach customers along all or part of the following roads in Newfane: Cushing Flats Road, Eddy Road, Forrest Lane, French Cabin Road, Newfane Road, Old Stage Road, Sir Issac Newton Road, South Wardsboro Road, Roy Brooks Road, Timson Hill Road, Vic Benjamin Road, and White Birch Lane.
In Townshend, service will be expanded to Athens Road, Billy Smith Road, Buck Hill Road, Deer Valley Road, East Hill Road, Galbraith Drive, Grafton Road, Gramma Cutts Lane, Greenwood Road, Hall Drive, Jay Road, Maggie Ladd Road, Stone Wall Road, and West Hill Road.
In Whitingham, expanded service is inbound for Bear Lane, Chase Hill Road, Corse Road, East Road, Faulkner Road, Fuller Hill Road, Murdock Lane, South Ryder Pond Road, and Wilmington Cross Road.
And in Wilmington, service will be expanded to Boyd Hill Road, Dix Road, Green Road, Minor Road, Old Mill Lane, Radar Road, Riley Boyd Road, Tobler Trail, and Wimmelman Hill Road.
FairPoint says it invested nearly $100 million in its network in Vermont and added 1,100 miles of new fiber, providing high-speed access to 92 percent of its Vermont service areas with residential speed options up to 15 megabits per second.
The Newfane, Townshend, and Whitingham expansions were funded in part by the Federal Communications Commission's Connect America Fund (CAF), established in 2011 to accelerate broadband buildout to the 18 million Americans living in rural areas who have no access to robust broadband services.
The Wilmington expansion was funded by a grant from the Vermont Telecommunications Authority.
