SAXTONS RIVER — Vendors and parade entrants are sought for this year's Fourth of July celebration in Saxtons River.
Vendors are invited to set up on Main Street before the 5K road race begins at 8:30 a.m. Anyone interested in renting a space should write Flo Levin at [email protected].
The parade begins at 9:30 and welcomes participants modest and grand. Entrants should write Susan Hernandez at [email protected].
The theme for this year's celebration is “A Star-Spangled Fourth” in honor of the 200th anniversary of Francis Scott Key's penning of the words to our national anthem. Judges will award prizes for the best entries, with extra points for following the theme.
In addition to the 5K race and the parade, with Eddie and Kim Mack as grand marshals, the day's events include a hula-hoop contest, firemen's water polo, a pie contest, egg-toss contest, miniature golf, and live music on the bandstand. The Saxtons River Pirates will host baseball games at Vermont Academy in the afternoon.
Evening events at the Saxtons River rec include square dancing with Jill, Laurie, Andy and friends, and the band Maverick Street for dancing and listening before the fireworks at dusk.
Attendees are reminded that smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, and dogs are not allowed on the property.
The committee is still looking for someone to sell food in the evening. Nonprofits are especially welcome.
