Visual rapper’s performance to benefit interpreters

BRATTLEBORO — The Vermont Interpreter Referral Service (VIRS) hosts deaf entertainer Warren Snipe, known as Wawa, at its ninth annual Yolande Henry Community Fund fundraiser on Saturday, May 3, at 3 p.m., at the Austine School gym.

Organizers said in a press release, “When you go to 'Wawa's House,' you'll be taken to a whole new level of music through deaf eyes! Yes, deaf as in can't hear - but he wears hearing aids, speaks, and signs. This multi-talented performer with a fan base across the nation and beyond is originally from Philadelphia and now resides in the Washington, D.C., area.”

Wawa calls his specialty “Dip-Hop,” or deaf hip-hop. Using rhymes and beats to take listeners into the Deaf world, he works to break down barriers.

Desserts and non-alcoholic beverages are sold before and during the show. There is a cash-prize raffle. All proceeds benefit the Yolande Henry Community Fund, which funds sign language interpreters for family events in Vermont not covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
