• In Brattleboro (Memorial Hospital), March 3, 2014, a daughter, Lily Grace Kurkul, to Jennifer (Howland) and Kevin Kurkul of Westminster; granddaughter to Walter and Catherine Kurkul of Westminster and Linda and the late Arnold Howland of Westminster.

College news

• Kerry Howard of Londonderry, a member of the Stonehill College Class of 2015, was recently inducted into the Psi Chi Honor Society. The society encourages, stimulates and maintains excellence in scholarship and works to advance the science of psychology.

• Jaclyn Toney of Brattleboro was one of 183 participanta in Keene State College's 14th Annual Academic Excellence Conference on April 5. This student professional conference is designed to showcase the academic work of Keene State students and the collaborative work between students and faculty. Toney presented “The Effect of Circular Wrist Tape On Wrist Range of Motion and Grip Strength” (Physical Education).

• Linwood “Bill” T. Ingram, 86, of Swanzey, N.H. Died April 12 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a period of declining health. Husband of Dorothy (Kennedy) Ingram for 66 years. Father of Steve Ingram and his wife, Kathy, of Putney; Terry L. Keith and her husband, Kyle, of Westmoreland, N.H.; Susan I. Lencioni and her husband, Scott, of Swanzey; Jeffrey D. Ingram and his wife, Lori-Anne of Westmoreland; and Shawna-Lee I. Perrin and her husband David of Westmoreland. Brother of Roy and Bobby Ingram, and the late Delbert Ingram Jr. Earl Ingram, Sylvia Thomas, Marie Goddard, Hazel Smith, and Arthur Ingram. Born in Brattleboro, the son of the late Emma (Pierce) and Delbert Ingram Sr., he was educated in Brattleboro and attended Brattleboro High School. He enlisted in the Navy on June 13, 1944, and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 11, 1946 at the rank of seaman first class. He was the founder and vice president of Ingram Construction Corp. in West Swanzey. He started the business in 1981 and retired in 1994, but never really left the family business, staying on as a board member and consultant. He was a man who loved his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. Time was spent in the outdoors hunting and fishing. His camp in the Westmoreland woods provided him with a cherished outlet for building stone walls, clearing land, and leaving something in better condition than he found it. He was an avid reader and had a vast personal library. He had a lifelong love of animals and leaves behind his beloved cat, Luna. He was also a member of the Masons, Shriners, Audobon Society, American Legion, Elks Club, Kiwanis, and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Memorial information: A celebration of life service was held on April 17 at Cheshire Family Funeral Home in Keene, N.H. Burial was private with military honors. • Carlton Francis “Pug” Kenyon, 74, of Grafton. Died April 24 at his home. Husband of Judith (Willard) Kenyon for 52 years. Father of Brenda Kenyon and her companion, Steve Rizzo, of Springfield; Kathy Lane of Bellows Falls; Walter Kenyon and his spouse, Julie, of Chester; and Lisa Ferguson and her spouse, Mark Ferguson, of Springfield. Brother of Leon Kenyon, Alice Culver, Christine DeCamp, and the late William Kenyon. Born in Brattleboro, the son of the late Walter and Annis (Fisher) Kenyon, he was an accomplished machinist, welder, mechanic, and truck driver who retired from Webster Trucking in Brattleboro. He was known for his love of old farm tractors. He always enjoyed chatting with friends and family and was a beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather. Memorial information: A potluck memorial will be held at the Grafton Chapel on Sunday, April 27, at 1 p.m.. All are ask to bring a dish and their fondest memories to share. A private burial service will be held in May. Donations to Grafton Cares or Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend.

• Kimball E. “Kim” Mann, 79, of Spofford, N.H. Died April 16 at home following a brief illness. Husband of Isabelle J. (Pearson) Mann for 55 years. Father of Susan L. Mernick of Shelburne, Patricia L. Shappy and her husband, William, of Rutland, and Andrew J. Mann of Clarendon. Brother of John R. Mann, Jr. of Vernon. Born in Brattleboro, the son of the late Pauline McLean Shaw Mann and John Russell Mann Sr., he was raised in Brattleboro and attended area schools, graduating from Brattleboro High School in 1952. He furthered his education at Middlebury College, graduating in 1956. After participating in the Army ROTC program, Lt. Mann served in the Army and spent eight years in the Army Reserve. As a child, he worked with his father at J.E. Mann Inc., a Main Street clothing store which had been owned by family members since 1901. In 1957, he became a partner in the business and later took over full operation of the store. He ran the business until he retired in 2001, at which time Vermont Artisan Designs purchased the building. One of his greatest pleasures in business was the 28 years he spent as a director of Vermont National Bank, observing the many changes which occurred in banking through the years. He was also a member of many committees of the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce, the United Way Fund, the Brattleboro Development Credit Corp., and Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. He was a former member and past president of the Brattleboro Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 5 and Brattleboro Lodge 102, F&AM. With his wife, he was a longtime member of the Centre Congregational Church of Brattleboro. A faithful and devoted husband and loving father, he adored his children and grandchildren and recently a great grandson. He was very proud of his Spofford Lake home with the fun of boating, family activities, bird watching, and traveling. Memorial information: A funeral services was held April 21 at Centre Congregational Church, with burial in Freidsam Cemetery in Chesterfield. Donations to the Spofford Lake Association, P.O. Box 177, Spofford, NH 03462, or Joan's Pantry, in care of Audrey Ericson, 557 Route 63, Chesterfield, NH 03443. Arrangements were under the direction of Atamaniuk Funeral Home of Brattleboro.

• Nancy L. Mayhew, 80, of Brattleboro. Died April 12 at her home, following an extended illness. Mother of John Taylor of Marshfield, Mark Mayhew of Brattleboro, and Eric Mayhew of Vernon. Born in South Athol, Mass., the daughter of the late Harold and Alice Seeley Taylor, she had been a resident of Brattleboro for the past 50 years. A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Brattleboro. She was a devoted homemaker who loved spending time with her family, whom she adored. Memorial information: A funeral Mass was held April 16 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with burial in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery. Donations to the Windham County Humane Society, P.O. Box 397, Brattleboro, VT 05302. Arrangements were handled by Atamaniuk Funeral Home of Brattleboro.

• Ragna Thorsen Somme, 70, of West Wardsboro. Died April 9 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Wife of the late Berner Magnor Somme. Mother of Nancy O'Malley and her husband, Ed, of Mahopac, N.Y.; and Michael Somme and his wife, Kathryn, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y. Sister of Inger-Johanne Raundelen and husband, Olaf, of Arendal, Norway. Born in Arendal, Norway, the daughter of the late Albert and Ruth Bugge Thorsen, she came to the United States in 1963. She was a former member of the Sons of Norway in Croton Falls, N.Y., enjoyed gardening, watching sunsets at the ocean, skiing, baking, and time spent with her family and friends. She was a very generous and caring individual who put others before herself, and was ready to lend a helping hand however she was able to when it was needed. Memorial information: A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 10, at 1 p.m. at the Wardsboro Methodist Church. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours. • Ottilie Wilson, 97, formerly of East Dover. Died April 13 at her home in Closter, N.J. A retired schoolteacher, she and her late husband, Walter Wilson, resided in East Dover until his death in 1991, when she relocated to Closter to be near her son, Alan. Memorial information: She will be buried next to her husband in the family plot at Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington. Donations may be made to Mayflower Chapter O.E.S. or Closter Ambulance and Rescue Corps, in care of Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363.

• A memorial celebration for Francis H. Capen will be held Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m., at the West Wardsboro Cemetery with a pot luck lunch and gathering to follow at the Stratton Town Hall from noon to 3 p.m.
