WILLIAMSVILLE — On Saturday, April 26, Timson Hill Preschool hosts its annual Latin Dance Party and Silent Auction fundraiser at Williamsville Grange.
The silent auction runs from 6 to 7:45 p.m. and offers incredible goods, services, and art items. During the silent auction, popular local musician Peter Miles will entertain.
Throughout the night, attendees can enjoy delicious, homemade food and desserts featuring a Latin theme, and a cash bar of beer and wine.
From 8 to 11 p.m., De Lomas y Sones take the stage for three hours of amazing music. The band's name translates as “of hills and songs,” and pays tribute to its Vermont home base.
Playing classic Cuban music styles and Latin jazz, De Lomas y Sones plays Afro-Cuban “son,” the deeply soulful and influential dance style at the root of salsa, cha-cha, and mambo.
With congas, bongó, bass, piano, flute, saxophone, and vocals, De Lomas y Sones will deliver an evening of sizzling Cuban sounds.
The band is fronted by William Armando Rodriguez on lead vocals, bongó, and timbales, and by female lead vocalist Maricel Lucero. Both Rodriguez and Maricel are from Santiago de Cuba, the mountainous province where “son” originated.
They are supported by four Vermont and Western Massachusetts Latin music all-stars: Jon Weeks on saxophones and flute, Dan DeWalt on piano, Wes Brown on bass, and Julian Gerstin on congas.
