FairPoint Communications has announced that it will expand its broadband coverage to 90 homes and businesses in Putney, Westminster, and Brattleboro
The company's new fiber-based, high-capacity network will reach customers along all or part of the following roads in Putney: Black Locust Road, Hickory Ridge Road, Hog Farm Road, and Tavern Hill.
In Westminster, service will be expanded on Burnett and Hickory Ridge roads.
In Brattleboro, Abbott Road, Akley Road, Gateway Farm Lane, Goodenough Road, Greenleaf Street, Hinesburg Road, Mather Road, Melchen Road, and Quails Hill Road will see expanded service.
FairPoint says it invested nearly $100 million in its network in Vermont and added 1,100 miles of new fiber, providing high-speed access to 92 percent of its Vermont service areas with residential speed options up to 15 Mbps (megabits per second).
The Putney and Westminster expansions were funded in part by the Federal Communications Commission's Connect America Fund (CAF), established in 2011 to accelerate broadband buildout to the 18 million Americans living in rural areas who lack access to robust broadband services.
The Brattleboro expansion was funded in part by a grant from the Vermont Telecommunications Authority.
