What's black and white and red all over? That's the question being asked around town as Our Place Drop In Center invites the public to a swing dance on Saturday, April 5, at the Walpole, N.H., town hall.
Rob Fletcher and Ballroom Blitz will play for dancing from 7 to 10 p.m. The event is BYOB, but snacks will be available for purchase.
Prizes will be given for the best male and female black, white, and red outfits.
The event is a benefit for Our Place Drop In Center, the food pantry and daytime shelter at 4 Island St.
Fletcher, a vocalist and chromatic harmonica player, together with his band will perform a night of ballroom dance music of swing, rumba, foxtrot, cha cha, waltz, and tango.
Fletcher has been performing jazz, blues and vintage pop throughout New England and beyond since 1990, including performing original music at Woodstock '94 to an audience of 350,000.
He's also performed at the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, the National Guitar Workshop, the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville, and with Trey Anatasio of Phish. He's even opened for Crash Test Dummies.
“Music and dance have always been linked,” says Fletcher. “Playing music for dancers connects the heart and the body to the music. It's a powerful experience and I'm excited to play the major dance styles to both support the dancers and give the listeners a memorable night of fresh music they don't often hear.”
