BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Union High School's music department presents a late-winter concert on Tuesday, March 18, at 7 p.m. in the BUHS auditorium.
This free show features the school's chorus, band, jazz band, jazz workshop and Madrigals.
The concert band will perform Morton Gould's “American Salute,” John Philip Sousa's “Washington Post,” John Mackey's “Sheltering Sky,” and Thomas Duffy's “Michigan's Motors.”
The chorus will sing Rosephanye Powell's setting of the Nigerian folk song “E Oru O,” Gustav Holst's “I Love My Love,” Morten Lauridsen's “O Nata Lux,” and Moses Hogan's setting of “The Battle of Jericho.”
Madrigals will present Brendan Taaffe's “Wester Caputh,” Thomas Morley's “April is in My Mistress' Face,” Orlando Gibbons' “The Silver Swan,” and Ron Drotos' “The Tragedy of Macbeth.”
The jazz band's selections include David Berger's “Stompin' on a Riff,” Victor Lopez's “Night Walk,” Thad Jones' “Backbone,” and David Mann and Bob Hilliard's “In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning.”
The jazz workshop's program includes Charlie Parker's “Au Privave,” Freddie Hubbard's “Red Clay,” Tadd Dameron's “If You Could See Me Now,” and Thelonious Monk's “Epistrophy.”
Most of the ensembles will present their programs as well at a Heritage Music Festival on March 22 in Fairfax, Va. Such performances are evaluated and rated by a panel of collegiate adjudicators.
Patty Meyer directs the BUHS choral ensembles. Steve Rice leads the concert and jazz bands. Jamie MacDonald directs jazz workshop.
