PUTNEY — The 2014 Winter Sunshine series of family performances at Sandglass Theater kicks off on Jan. 4 with “Dreamtime: Tales From Down Under,” presented by Winter Sunshine favorites Barefoot Puppets of Richmond, Va.
Experience the magic of the land down under in this performance inspired by Aboriginal folktales. Learn more about some truly unusual animals as a mother platypus tries to get her young one to sleep by sharing three stories from the Australian Dreamtime.
In these “how and why” tales, you'll learn how the emu became a flightless bird, and why the platypus looks so very, very strange. In the final story, you'll meet a giant, bloated, ocean-swallowing frog. You might even be invited onstage to help save the world.
Barefoot Puppet Theatre has been building and performing original works since 1997. Performances have thrilled audiences at Boston's Puppet Showplace Theater, the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, the National Zoo, and the Smithsonian Discovery Theater.
The 2014 Winter Sunshine Series is a presentation of Crabgrass Puppet Theater, Puppetwork New England, and Sandglass Theater, and is funded in part by a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts.
