Birthday luncheon served for December's seniors
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Senior Center and the Brattleboro Senior Meals Program host their December birthday luncheon celebration on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 11:30 a.m. at the Gibson-Aiken Center, 207 Main St.
Join them for appetizers and punch, with barbecued chicken, Brussels sprouts, and sweet potato wedges for lunch, and cake and ice cream for dessert. Those with birthdays in December are invited to celebrate the occasion by sitting at the birthday table; their donations are waived for the day. They may invite one guest to sit with them; however that guest is encouraged to make the regular donation.
The suggested donation for seniors 60 and above is $4; $6 for all others. Entertainment included. Everyone wishing to attend this dinner may make reservations at 802-257-1236 or 802-257-7570. Kindly state whether you are celebrating a birthday, and how many seats you wish to reserve at the birthday table.
The Senior Center also announces it is holding its annual cookie swap on Wednesday, Dec. 18. Take home a plate full of a variety of scrumptious homemade cookies, after having brought a couple dozen cookies of your own for others to enjoy. Toastmasters speeches, evaluations Dec. 12 at Marlboro Grad Center
BRATTLEBORO - Offering dramatic improvement in public speaking and leadership development, and serving southern Vermont since 2007, BrattleMasters, the Brattleboro-based chapter of Toastmasters International, meets the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the second floor of Marlboro College Graduate Center, 28 Vernon St.

Public invited to 'Trail Talk' for I-91 Brattleboro bridge project
BRATTLEBORO - The PCL/FIGG team is conducting its first on-site “Trail Talk” on Saturday, Dec. 14. These talks take up the status of the I-91 Brattleboro bridge project. Participants will learn about the construction and are encouraged to ask questions.
The talks will originate at the West River Trail near the Marina. The first trail talk is led by Caleb Linn, project manager for PCL (the lead contractor), and Garrett Hoffman, design manager for FIGG (the bridge designer).
Interested participants should meet the PCL/FIGG team at the West River Trail trailhead at 8 a.m. The talk begins at 8:15. Participants will walk the trail to the I-91 bridge site, so wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Sanders to host senior holiday dinner in Brattleboro
BRATTLEBORO - U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is hosting a free senior holiday dinner that will feature holiday music by the Leland & Gray Union High School chorus.

Marlboro calendars now on sale
MARLBORO - The Marlboro Historical Society's 2014 calendar is available for purchase at the Marlboro Town Office, the Hogback Mountain Gift Shop, at Vermont Artisans in Brattleboro, and by mail.
The 2014 calendar highlights many portraits from the society's extensive photography collection and an assortment of photographs depicting various periods in Marlboro's history, including the recent past. Calendars are $15 each.
