All Souls presents one-woman show on Louisa May Alcott

WEST BRATTLEBORO — “Duty's Faithful Child: A Visit With Louisa May Alcott” will be presented at All Souls Church (West Village Meetinghouse) on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m.

This event, sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council, will replace the usual morning church service.

As with all Sunday services at All Souls, the public is cordially invited to attend without charge.

All Souls, located at 29 South St., across and up the hill from the West Brattleboro Fire Station, is accessible to people with limited abilities.

Famous as the author of “Little Women,” Louisa May Alcott was herself a fascinating character. Her life was formed in the intellectual and philosophical hotbed of 18th century Concord, Mass. - home to Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, and Bronson Alcott, the author's philosopher father.

Actress Jeanne L. Austin will perform “Duty's Faithful Child,” for which Louisa's life and writings have been shaped into an exciting, educational theatrical experience by author Peter Nadolny.

Austin, a member of Actors' Equity Association and SAG-AFTRA, has played in regional, stock, and off-Broadway theaters in roles ranging from Rosalind in “As You Like It” to Amanda in “The Glass Menagerie.” She has appeared in TV and theatrical motion pictures. She was recently seen as Professor Ashford in the Apron Theater production of “Wit” at Next Stage Arts in Putney. She attended Mt. Holyoke College and holds a degree in Fine Arts/Drama from Colorado College.

Nadolny, retired clinical chemist and quality assurance consultant for the medical products industry, researches and writes the monodramas for “HerStory Productions,” a creative collaboration formed to present stories of the women of yesterday to the women and men of today.

Austin and Nadolny moved to Westminster in 2011, where Austin maintains a studio for Saori, a type of freestyle hand weaving. The couple are active members of the All Souls community.
